July 5 - 7, 2002 : Toronto, Ontario
Toronto Trek 16 is Canada's largest volunteer-run convention. It is also one of the best conventions in Canada.
A few members of the 501st Canadian Garrison trooped around the convention once more this year: TD741, TI829, TK878, TB11234, and TI426CA, and Jedi avatar (incognito).
Anthony Daniels
who plays C-3PO was one of the guests at Toronto Trek. Some of us
caught most of the talk he gave on Saturday, and I must say, it was one
of the best talks I've ever attended.
At his Saturday autograph session, the 501st Canadian Garrison
presented Anthony Daniels with an honorary membership which he accepted
with much enthusiasm! TD741, TI829, TK878, and TB1124 were on hand for
the presentation. Each of us presented something. Mr. Daniels received
his plaque, a Canadian Garrison t-shirt, a Canadian Garrison patch, and
last but not least a box of Kellogs AOTC Cereal. During the
presentation he reiterated that he had the greatest respect for the
501st and what we did. I think that went rather well!
We decided to drop into the dealers room on Saturday just to see what
was on sale. To our surprise, we saw none other than Richard Crouse of Reel to Reel.
Can you tell I'm a fan of the show? We chatted a bit and he did a quick
interview with us for the show. Can't wait to see if it survives the
editing room!
When we thought it was all over, a TVO documentary crew interviewed us for a segment they were shooting. A reporter from Now Magazine, a local Toronto news paper, also chatted with a few of us.
Sunday had a smaller attendance from the 501st.ca. It paid off for
those who did. Our own so-called "Empire Stormtrooper Captain", TI829,
had an interview with CTV and made a quick television appearance.
We also met up with fellow costumers at the convention. Kropserkle and
members of the Toronto Long Line were attending the convention along
with the gang from SithClan. Of course, who could forget Uilmuteiz and
his crazy "Clonetrooper Bob" costume.
The group would like to send out a special thank you to the Toronto
Trek con office staff, especially Frances and Laurel for helping out
and allowing us to use their meeting/storage room as a changing room
during the con. It was a great help, and very much appreciated.
Hi to Kerri and Kyana, we seem to only see you guys once a year!
Note: An apology and explanation for the people we may have
annoyed at Mr. Daniels' Saturday autograph session. The 501st.ca were
making a fan appreciation presentation to him, and were asked to do it
during his autograph session. It may have looked as if we were jumping
the queue to get autographs. To make it clear that this was not the
case, we got in line on Sunday just like everyone else.
