IMAX AOTC Premiere October 31, 2002 - Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal

Following a very sucessful run in standard format theaters over the summer 2002 movie season, Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones was released in the IMAX format in theaters across across Canada and the US. The film was edited to address the length restriction of IMAX, and then was processed using IMAX's DMR (Digital Remastering process) which enhances the image for the IMAX format.

What made this a different movie release was LucasFilm's involvement of Star Wars fans -- fans across North America were asked to help liven up the theatres and they rose to the challenge! Canadian fan groups greeted movie patrons during the Hallowe'en premiere and opening weekend at Famous Players movie theatres in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.

Unsurprisingly, the 501st Canadian Garrison and Rebel Legion's Canadian Base were in the thick of things but we had lots of help from other local fan groups. Fan Force Ontario (Toronto Long Line, Young Jedi Niagara, and London Rogues) were in Toronto and Sith Clan was in Montreal. After each showing, all fan groups helped distribute copies of Bantha Tracks #0, a special IMAX edition of the Star Wars fan club newsletter.

Downtown Toronto's premiere at the Famous Players Paramount theater was attended by members of the 501st, Rebel Legion, Young Jedi Niagara, and Fan Force.

Mississauga's premiere at the Famous Players Coliseum was handled by Young Jedi Niagara and Fan Force. Along with handing out Bantha Tracks and entertaining the patrons, YJN also held a food and toy drive at the theater over the weekend. Who better to tell you about what happened there than YJN themselves.

Sith Clan and the 501st gave people a real-life taste of Star Wars at the Paramount theater in Montreal, Quebec.

Events were also held in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Edmonton, Alberta.

Special thanks from the 501st.ca and Rebel Legion Canada go out to Gayle Bonish from IMAX Corp.

This was truly the first Canada-wide event that 501st Canadian Garrison and Rebel Legion Canada took part in. Good work troops!

TB7445 suited up for the first time.

He's a little short for a trooper, but just a bit taller than a poster.

The Empire needs you!
