May 12, 2002 : Toronto, Ontario
Joy
of joys! Toronto was the only Canadian city chosen to hold a charity
premiere screening for "Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones"
benefiting Child Find Ontario.
Adding to the excitement of the day, Toronto native Hayden Christensen, who plays "Anakin Skywalker" attended the premiere of the film at Paramount Theatre along with his family.
Unfortunately, the weather refused to co-operate -- it was either
pouring rain, or absolutely frigid! Many of us shivered outside while
waiting for the guests of honour to arrive at the theater.
Despite the weather, there was plenty of press to cover the event (at
times even outnumbering the crowds by the theater). Many members of the
501st Canadian Garrison, Rebel Legion, and Young Jedi Niagara were interviewed and appeared in a variety of tv spots and newspaper articles. These included SPACE TV, CTV, CityTV, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Extra!, The Toronto SUN Newspaper, and the National Post.
Because there were more people there than had been expected, stormtroopers of the 501st.ca were asked to help control the crowds and form an honour guard.
The whole day was a lot of fun for everyone. Thanks must go out to Roy
(TI829) for contacting Child Find Ontario, and for actually organizing
us during the day.
